Shop This Land: The Toner That Saved My Face

One of the best things about shopping made in the USA is that things are typically made more organically (like this grand organic toner), too. I’ve found that in many (not all) cases, things that are made in the USA are more natural, less wasteful, and just all-around better for you and for others. And my next find is no different. So let me take you back to the beginning —->

I read The Skin Cleanse by Adina Grigore and it pretty much changed how I looked at skin care all together. I realize how closely tied together my skin and my diet were and it just plain made things clearer for me, both mentally and physically. In the book, she recommends food journaling to try and track how your face and your body reacts to different things. She doesn’t recommend doing it for a long time – just long enough to see patterns and results. I did it and it was freakin’ WEIRD. And now I do it every so often – maybe twice or three times a year – to see what else is up with my big bad skin stuff. I learned that ice cream = BAM. Breakout. Dairy wrecked my face. It was sad and horrible because obviously, ice cream. I still eat it but rarely and have found so many alternatives to dairy products that it is crazy.

anyways, back to the organic toner.

I have breakout prone skin. I don’t have serious acne but there were times my face was covered in red, smaller, some bigger, blackheads, whiteheads, bumps, all of it. I hated it and tried everything. I mean EVERYTHING. Prescription pills, prescription creams, painful monthly facials, every acne cream known to man, mud masks, cranberry masks, gel this, gel that, Proactiv, Clarisonic, you name it and I’ve tried it. Sometimes it would get better for a small period of time and then just find its way back. So after reading Adina’s book, I came across her name of skin care products, S.W. Basics. Mind you, I didn’t really know she had a skin care line after reading the book because she doesn’t try to tell you on it which I really appreciated.

S.W. Basics makes a handful of products and the organic toner is a bottle of magic. It’s made up of 5 ingredients: water, witch hazel, apple cider vinegar, and essential oils of clary sage and sandalwood. All organic and all real and all made in the USA. I use it morning and night after rinsing/washing my face and I use a cotton ball to apply it all over. It doesn’t smell like much or look like the magic that it is but when you put it on, you can feel it working. It tightens and heals up the bumps of all kinds. It doesn’t dry my face out which was so incredibly important to me, too. They have mini, travel-friendly sizes so you can try them out with less of a risk.

S.W. makes some crazy good cream and lip balm, too. I also buy my lavender oil from them, all of it made right here in the grand ole’ US of A. All their products are made with not a lot of stuff (aka 0% junk) including the 5 ingredient organic toner.
